ATRASOL

Skills

Atrasol is a consultancy firm specialising in sustainable development strategies that are restoring and regenerating industrial sites, decontaminating polluted soil, multi-criteria analyses of projects related to sustainability, reusing waste and practical solutions for a circular economy.

Role

Atrasol coordinates the work regarding the inventory of marginal land in cross-border areas and plays an active role in other modules.

  • Our desire: to help regions achieve “eco-responsible” independence bringing together industrial development, preservation of resources and ecology and by using the tools that have been developed.

Chambre d’Agriculture de Région Nord Pas-de-Calais (CANP)

Skills

The CANP, a public organisation dedicated to farmers and rural stakeholders, keeps farmers informed on how to evolve and adapt their businesses and support their joint initiatives. They are closely involved in the issue of the contamination of arable land where the production of agricultural plants may not comply with current regulation.

Role

The CANP will be involved in all modules thanks to their network (communities, ADEME, farmers, associations, manufacturers etc.).

  • The production of non-food biomass could be a solution to the problem of contaminated agricultural land in the Hauts-de-France region. With this in mind, the New-C-Land project is necessary to find ways to develop biomass locally.

Direction Régionale de l’Alimentation, l’Agriculture et la Forêt (DRAAF) Hauts-de-France

Skills

The DRAAF Hauts-de-France is a decentralised department of the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food. With their partners, they are working on a local project focusing on the agricultural area which is polluted by the old Métaleurop plant, based on steering agriculture towards non-food production (anaerobic digestion, miscanthus etc.).

Role

The DRAAF will contribute to the regulatory framework and implement public policy, and acts as a gateway to its institutional partners.

  • “Unity is strength!” when it comes to creating cross-border synergies and developing all aspects of the bioeconomy.

Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech Axe Echanges Eau-Sol-Plante (GxABT-EESP)

Skills

GxABT-EESP, a research group based at the ULg-GxABT, is carrying out research which focuses on understanding how natural or anthropized water-soil-plant systems work.

Role

L’unité possède une expertise en cartographie, géostatistique, chimie et physique des sols, des eaux et des plantes, mise en place et suivi d’essais de remédiation des sols contaminés. Cette expertise sera mise à profit tout au long du projet et au-delà. The unit possesses expertise in cartography, geostatistics, chemistry and physics in relation to soil, water and plants, and sets up and monitors soil remediation tests on contaminated land. This expertise will be put to use throughout the entire project and in the long term.

  • GxABT-EESP is keen to develop a tool that is adapted to our society’s needs and sustainable in the long run.

INAGRO

Skills

INAGRO is the research centre and agricultural service for West Flanders. They offer their understanding of applied research to the agricultural sector, the agri-food cluster, society, provincial services and also at a political level.

Role

INAGRO works on uncontaminated marginal land and will offer the benefits of the lessons learned on the field and their network.

  • The New-C-Land project gives us a good indication of the possibilities of using marginal land and influencing factors. Thanks to the results obtained, it may be possible to organise demo sites to present the potential of marginal land.

Institut National de l’Environnement Industriel et des Risques (INERIS)

Skills

INERIS works with public policies and economic stakeholders to assess and prevent accidental and chronic risks for humans and the environment related to industrial installations and chemical substances (assessing the risks of polluted land, management by introducing plant biomass, managing the risks associated to using biomass).

Role

With experience in introducing plant biomass on marginal land and working with partners from the New-C-Land project team, INERIS contributes to each module and offers the benefits of the knowledge gained to create a decision support tool developed within the context of the project.

  • Introducing plant biomass to marginal land, a fitting management solution.

ISA – Yncrea Hauts-de-France – Laboratoire de Génie Civil et géo-Environnement (LGCgE)

Skills

ISA-Lille Yncréa-Hauts-de-France is involved in teaching, research and consultancy related to agriculture, agri-food, the environment and landscaping. One of their teams, the LGCgE-ISA, has expertise when it comes to introducing plant biomass (miscanthus, hemp) in order to manage urban and agricultural land sustainably. Their research is part of the circular economy.

Role

LGCgE plays an active role in the New-C-Land project thanks to lessons learned from experience in the field and from the ISA-Lille network.

  • ISA-Lille Yncréa Hauts-de-France would like to develop new ways of managing marginal land whilst also responding to new socio-economic needs.

ECOCHEM – Ghent University

Skills

ECOCHEM-UGent specialises in analysing plant biomass produced on contaminated land. ECOCHEM established an international reputation thanks to their expertise and their use of crops from contaminated land on an industrial scale in Belgium. The unit has an extensive industrial network and an excellent relationship with the Flemish authorities.

Role

UGent acts as coordinator of the New-C-Land project, plays an active role in all of the modules involved and coordinates the transition from theory to practice.

  • Thanks to the New-C-Land project, we are responding to the need of producing enough biomass in order to develop the bioeconomy whilst also managing marginal land. Moreover, cultivating this land is a response to the “food crops vs non-food crops” debate.

ValBiom

Skills

ValBiom encourages and facilitates the implementation of sustainable initiatives incorporating the production of biomass with its transformation into energy and materials. Since 2015, and even more so since the start of the Interreg New-C-Land project, ValBiom has established themselves as a central figure when it comes to introducing plant biomass to marginal land in Wallonia.

Role

Helped by the consortium, ValBiom provides information on the project and is coordinating an information and awareness-raising campaign on introducing plant biomass aimed at the managers of marginal land and biobased businesses. In order to accomplish this, the not-for-profit organisation also offers the benefits of their understanding of the field and their network.

  • The production of plant biomass on marginal land is non-existent in Wallonia and in cross-border areas. ValBiom would like to encourage this thanks to the Interreg New-C-Land project.
